The UX Problem Startups Ignore
Most startups obsess over features and ignore the interface presenting those features. "We will polish UX later." This is backwards — your landing page is your first product interaction.
4 Questions That Matter
1. Can a stranger understand what you do in 5 seconds?
Show your page for 5 seconds. Close it. If they cannot answer "What does this do?" and "Who is it for?" your messaging is broken.
2. How many clicks to value?
Best startups: under 3 steps. If visitors cannot experience core value within 60 seconds, you have an activation problem.
3. Do visitors trust you enough to act?
Early-stage trust strategies: show the product working, use specific numbers even if small, show the founder, offer generous free tiers.
4. Where is the biggest leak?
- Bounce immediately = messaging problem
- Scroll but no click = weak CTA
- Start signup but abandon = friction
- Sign up but no activation = onboarding fails
Rapid Audit Workflow
Week 1: Run an AI audit. Identify top 5 issues.
Week 2: Fix the top 3.
Week 3: Measure before vs. after.
Repeat monthly.
The startups that find product-market fit fastest are not the ones with the best product. They are the ones whose interface communicates value most clearly.
