SaaS Landing Pages Have a Unique Problem
Unlike e-commerce, SaaS companies sell something invisible. You are selling a future state — the version of life where the problem is solved. Here are 12 mistakes we see most often.
Mistake 1: Feature-First Headlines
"AI-Powered Workflow Automation with Real-Time Collaboration." This says everything about the product and nothing about why anyone should care.
Fix: Lead with the outcome. "Ship campaigns in half the time."
Mistake 2: No Product Screenshot Above the Fold
Visitors need to see what they are signing up for. Abstract illustrations do not cut it.
Fix: Show a clean screenshot of your actual product UI.
Mistake 3: Social Proof That Proves Nothing
"Trusted by thousands." Which thousands? What results?
Fix: "11,400+ teams including Shopify and Notion" with specific outcomes.
Mistake 4: Confusing Pricing Page
Three tiers, 15 features each, half in jargon.
Fix: Lead each tier with who it is for and the primary use case.
Mistake 5: Generic CTA Copy
"Get Started." Started with what?
Fix: Complete the sentence "I want to ___." Example: "Start My Free Audit."
Mistake 6: Hiding the Free Tier
Free is your acquisition engine. Make it impossible to miss.
Fix: Default to the free plan. Use "Start Free" everywhere.
Mistake 7: No Demo Without Signup
Asking for account creation before showing the product.
Fix: Offer a sample report or interactive demo. This alone can increase signups 30%+.
Mistake 8: Homepage Tries to Serve Everyone
Speaking to developers AND marketers AND executives simultaneously.
Fix: Pick your primary audience. Create dedicated landing pages for segments.
Mistake 9: No Differentiation
"We are the best." So are 47 others.
Fix: Add a "Why us vs. alternatives" section with honest differentiators.
Mistake 10: Walls of Text
No visual breaks, no scanability.
Fix: Visual break every 2-3 paragraphs: screenshot, testimonial, or stat callout.
Mistake 11: Ignoring Mobile
40-60% of traffic is mobile. Desktop-first shrunk for mobile does not work.
Fix: Check on a real phone. Is the CTA visible without scrolling?
Mistake 12: No Urgency
"Sign up whenever" has zero pull.
Fix: Legitimate urgency: "Free during beta" or "14-day trial starts when you are ready."
The High-Converting Pattern
Pages at 8-12% conversion share: outcome-driven headline, product screenshot, specific social proof near the CTA, a demo without signup, clear pricing defaulting to free, and FAQ for objections.
